American Idol 8 Kansas City Auditions Review
Kansas City was ok. I think the judges let a lot of terrible singers in though, which I really don't understand. There were a few really good singers though. I think I might have enjoyed last night's Phoenix auditions more.
Here are some of the singers that stood out the most for me, for better or for worst.
Ashley Anderson. I thought she was pretty good. She automatically scored points with Simon for choicing a song that he produced, or was somehow involved with. This is her myspace
. I think her myspace shows more of who she really is. I could barely recognize on her myspace. I like the songs on her myspace better than her audition song, too. She's really unique. I hope she makes it far.
Casey Carlson. She's a very pretty girl. I think she has potential, but I absolutely
HATED her version of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles". I guess I'm a little biased though. "A Thousand Miles" is one of my favorite songs and her version just sounded so different.
Von Smith. There's a lot of buzz going on about him in cyber city. I don't get it. I think he's awful. I'm shocked that the judges all liked him and put him through. Supposively he built up a big fan base based on his youtube videos. I'm listening to one of them right now, and it's not much better than his audition. Here's the video, what do you guys think? Yay or Nay?
Jason Castro's little brother Michael auditioned. I was shocked by how different he looks and acts than Jason. Kara was right, he is a bit "cocky" and "ballsy". lol. He has this really agressive in-your-face attitude. I liked him, but not nearly as much as I like Jason. From spoilers I have learned that he gets cut in one of the Hollywood rounds.
Jasmine Johnson. I thought the judges were a little harsh. I was surprised she didn't make it through. She's obviously not great but I didn't think she was that bad either. She was a hell of a lot better than Von Smith! I hated how cocky she was after she got rejected. I hate when people are like that. Her attitude kind of ruined everything.
Jessica Furney. I thought she over-did the vocals a little bit, but overall she was really good. I love her personality and the simpleness she has. I hope she goes far.
Anoop DeSai, or as he told Randy to call him, "Anoop Dog". I don't really like his personality, but he has a really nice voice. I don't see him as being one to make it far in the compeition, though.
Danny Gokey! I love this guy! Probably my favorite audition so far. He has an incredible voice and is such a sweet guy! He kind of reminds me of a straight version of Jim Verraros. I probably shouldn't say that though because I'm one of the only ones that liked Jim Verraros' voice. I guess they aren't all that similar vocal-wise, but they have similar personalities. I reallly hope he gets into the top 36!
Asa Barnes. I thought he was really good. Joe's Place says that he got into the top 75 in season 4 of American Idol, but was later cut in Hollywood round when they do the thing with the rooms. Let's hope he makes it further this time around!
Dennis Brigham. Simon hated him, but all of the other judges liked him. I have to agree with Simon on this one. Seriously, what were the other judges thinking? This guy is awful! I'm pretty confident that he won't make it past the hollywood rounds.
Lil Rounds...obviously I posted her wrong on in previous post. lol. She was really good. I don't think she was as good as everyone is making her out to be, but she was still good. She reminds me a lot of Latoya London from season 3. She'll definitely make it into the top 36.
India Morrison. When she first did the rap with her sister I thought she was going to be terrible. However, when she sung by herself she was really good and I really ended up liking her. I think the judges made the right decision by only letting India through. Her sister was so sweet to be so supportive though. India's a good singer, but I don't see her making it through Hollywood week.
